In a state

2 May 2010

A new book out on the other side of the Atlantic is based on maps of unsuccessful proposals for new US states.

(‘US states’? Oh dear. That came straight from the department of redundancy department.)

Tweak a few contingencies here and there, and we could have been hearing about Sugarloaf Mountain in the State of Acadia, Mount Idaho in the State of Lincoln – there’s probably a reason they didn’t go for that – and even Nashville, Transylvania.

Now that is a country-and-western paranormal romance series in the making…

    Hi

I like this comment under the maps “Which of these states is Springfield in?”

    🙂

    Freaky!

    Take care

    Definitely!

  4. Unfortunately, I don’t know anything like as much about country and western as the demographic would expect the author to 🙂

Interesting concept, you could have fun with it.

The comments there are in some ways more interesting than the maps themselves.

Tangentially – I was looking up “other” Birminghams recently… and discovered there was one on the MOON.

A lunar crater called Birmingham. I’m sure there’s some creative mileage in that.
