Teaser Tuesday 16
8 June 2010
This is how it works:
- Grab your current read.
- Let the book fall open to a random page.
- Share with us two (2) ‘teaser’ sentences from that page, somewhere between lines 7 and 12.
- You also need to share the title of the book that you’re getting your ‘teaser’ from … that way people can have some great book recommendations if they like the teaser you’ve given!
- Please avoid spoilers!
Dracula Cha Cha Cha by Kim Newman. It’s 8½ with vampires… but this is from ’98, well before the Pride-and-Prejudice-Jane-Slayre-and-zombies-and-there-must-be-one-about-werewolves-too-and-I’m-sure-I-heard-about-one-where-the-hero-was-Abe-Lincoln madness began. (It’s also the third volume of a trilogy where the other volumes are senselessly out of print, but works perfectly well as a stand-alone…)
James Bond, Tom Ripley and… Marcello Mastroianni…? all show up. To name but three.
Nevertheless, Tom admired Dracula, for his Van Gogh craze if nothing else. That taste, once daringly radical, suggested an openness to the new uncharacteristic of the dead. Also, that – whatever his current circumstance – he could still be a dangerous man, a predator. (p. 47)
